“Her Empowering Resources Fund” = HER FUND
HER Fund was founded in Hong Kong by seven bold women: Linda To, Catherine Ng, Cecilia Young, Chung Yuen Yi, Lin Chew, Chan Yu, and Lam Wai Ha. They were convinced that improving women’s rights and their conditions of life in Hong Kong, was essential.
With support from Mama Cash (Netherlands), Global Fund for Women (USA) and the Hong Kong Women's Coalition on Equal Opportunities, the founders undertook a research study to better under the situation faced by grassroots women organisations. The findings were clear, that many of the women's organisations and groups in Hong Kong were struggling to secure funding to continue their valuable work.
In 2004, Her Empowering Resources Fund (HER Fund) was founded to work with courageous grassroots organisations that need funding and supportive networks to grow and transform their communities. HER Fund mobilises resources from individuals and institutions, makes grants to these self-led, feminist organisations, and helps to build the partnerships and networks needed to successfully empower them to make an impact.
Today, HER Fund is the only women’s fund in Hong Kong. We, together with our international and local partners, have funded 100+ grassroots organisations in Hong Kong who fight tirelessly to defend and advance women’s, girls’ and trans human rights.
